- Long ago there were not many hedge-schools in this district.
They were mostly situated out in fields.
These hedge-schools mostly were the dwelling places of the hedge school-masters.
The children that attended the hedge-schools brought small sums of money with which to pay their teachers.
The things that the children were taught were mostly English, as their teachers knew no Irish at that time.
Usually the hedge-schools were held in un-inhabited houses or in peoples out-houses.
At that time there were no writing-pens and the only writing pens that could be had were quills which the children made them-selves.
