No particular ceremonies are carried out now in Delvin on saint Brigid's Eve, but long ago the feast was observed in the district.

    (continued from previous page)
It is customary in Delvin, to have the windows of each house lighted with candles on Christmas morning,

At Hallow Eve Colcannon is made and a ring put in it and whoever gets the ring will be married first.
Tricks are played on people. Doors are tied, gates are unhinged and brought a distance.

    It is customary to say,
    "My Christmas box on you"
"My New Year's gift on you"
    "My Patrick's Pot on you"

On Saint Stephen's Day, the wren boys dress up and go round from house to house.

Many people fast from meat on St Stephen's Day. They say it keeps sickness away for the year.
