- (continued from previous page)finished. They go up the middle aisle, leave their offerings on the table and return by the side to their own place. Then the relatives proceed to carry out the remains the priest leading the way. If a person attends the funeral and omits to contribute his share he is considered as not having attended. This, however, never occurs. It often happens however that a person is unable to attend the funeral. In this case he sends his offerings in an envelope which is put on the table bearing senders name. The amount of offerings collected in this locality is usually about £10 sometimes £20. Occassionally in case of a very large funeral between £80 and £100 is collected. The grief-stricken relatives experience a great sense of consolations if the amount collected surpasses that of their neighbours. I heard of one woman in this district who after her husband's funeral, approached the priest officiating and inquired how much was collected. He satisfied her by telling her that the amount £20 was equal to that collected at the previous funeral. This woman is now dead some(continues on next page)
