- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The owner ordered the doors to be shut and no-one to go inside, but his steward saw there was no danger and, followed by the workers in the place, he entered and saved a great deal of the furniture in the drawing room, dining room, library and smoke room; women helped to carry out the books which were valuable, from the library. All the silver was saved and later sent to the bank.
Pictures, some of them valuable oil-paintings were also saved, and one called "The boar hunt" a very large picture, was got out with great difficulty ; It was valued at a high figure and is still hung in the dining room, its frame shows traces of the burning.
In the evening it began to rain which helped to keep the fire down.
Great crowds gathered at night to watch the blaze, the fire smouldered for three days. The roof fell in with a great smash and after the fire was out, a grate in a room, believed to be the nursery, had a kettle standing on the hob.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
