- There is a big moat a short distance out-side the village of Nobber. It is said that it was built by the Danes as a watch tower in time of battle.
In Penal days it was used as a place of prayer. The altar was placed in a shallow depression on the side of the moat, but owing to cattle paths this mark has diminished.
It is supposed by others that it is of a later origin having being built during the fifteenth century by the English as a fortification which commanded a section of the Pale(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
