There was a thatched chapel in Killyon and at night there used to be a school held in it. The chapel was burned the night of the big wind, 1839. There was a rush light burning and some of the thatch went on fire and the chapel was burned. All the men who were at school escaped.There was a hedge school at Blackshade, Hill-of-Down, Co.
