- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)was a much used herb also. It would be used as a salad in the evenings and it was very healthful Sorrel was another well used herb. The fields are full of it in Summer and very few people know it. It has a nice tartish flavour. Young people not getting the best of health would often be seen looking for it in in the fields. Another custom that is dying away is the use of young nettles. In the Spring of the year particularly in Lent, the mid-day meal on a blackfast day among the poor people would be nettle gruel.
