- Some women in Drogheda about forty years ago used to go to the borrows to gather bent for besom making. Besoms were a kind of brooms for sweeping floors for people who could not buy brushes. The women who gathered the bent would mak a besom for two-pence. They would plait the bent to a wooden handle and tie it with string. They would not have much profit on their labour.
