    of Louth (1671-72) lived in this castle.
    It is said that the Cromwellians murdered about 200 people who were gathered to hear Mass there in 1641.
    Rossmakea Abbey on the left bank of the R. Fane, about 3 miles from Dundalk was mentioned in an Inquisition of 1616. This said that it was in the possession of Louth Abbey.
    The largest house in Lurgangreen was once a military barracks, so the old people say. It was later used as an Inn, where the Dublin-Belfast Stages stopped to change horses before going on to Dunleer.
    It is now a wayside public house owned by Mrs. Farrelly.
    There is an old castle in Clermont which is said to have been built by the Normans. It is in runs and only two stories remain. it is known as Heynestown Castle.
