  1. 3. In one of my Grandfather's fields, on the right bank of the Fane River, there is a hill which has a very queer story attached to it. One night a man who lived in Lurgangreen (1 1/2 mls from Blackrock), had a dream in which he was told that there was treasure hidden in the hill. He decided to go & see could he find it, so next night he took a spade to the spot & commenced to dig. At length his spade clinked against a stone. He threw down the spade & tried to lift the stone, but just then a huge hound sprang out at him with fire coming from his mouth. The man ran away terrified & was glad to escape with his life.
People say that if he had cut off a finger and thrown it to the hound, he would have got the treasure which lay under the stone.
