The Mummers :- Boys & girls dress them - selves in nondescript clothes, and with blackened faces, or wearing false faces, go from door to door singing popular songs.
The Wren boy custom is observed on St. Stephen's Day.
Local superstition observes that a change of abode should be made on a Friday.
Local Phrase :- Friday is the lucky day for "flitting". Saturday's flitting means a short sitting.
Some people believe that if the Xmas pudding is broken when cooking, it will mean a death in the family during the year.
Another belief is that it is unlucky to return to the house when going anywhere.
