  2. The common wild animal here is the rabbit - so plentiful are they that they are looked upon as a 'pest'.
    Weasels are also common - they help to destroy the rabbits.
    Rats are also common.
    Wild duck are common water fowl including "widgeon" and "diver".
    These are shot by the Islanders and used as diet.
    The "faoileán" is to be seen constandly and also the "heron" with its long beak.
    "Swans" are to be seen occasionally and it is a common saying here that if the swans are seen flying over the island it is a sign of "death" to some member of a household on the Island.
    "Owls" are also frequent visitors and are generally seen among the Ivy which is thickly covering the walls, which are left of the old churchyard. The domestic animals are the Cat and the Dog.
