- My uncle John Fant, who is living in Cordangan told me that about fifty years ago there was a woolen mill working in the townland of Lacken where the present saw mill is now situated.
In this woolen mill tweeds, frieze and flannel were woven. People came from far away places with their own wool to get it spun and woven into tweed. This mill was worked by the same company as worked the Bansha woolen mill. Lacken woolen mill was closed down during the land agitation on the Smith Barry estate. After some years it was opened again as a saw mill. It continued working as a saw mill until the Barrymore estate was taken over by the Irish Land Commission. Since then it has fallen into ruin.
