Tradition has it that the crosses were never put there by anybody. They were simply discovered by an amazed people one morning as if they had sprung up like mushrooms overnight.
With regard to the one that is missing that base of which is still there the story is told that it was stolen and was being conveyed by boat down the river Suir to Tramore below Waterford when it slipped from the fetters which bound it and is now believed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
