  1. Ballad - Langley of the Iron Hand

    One often hears by the fireside in Ballingarry the story of Langley of the Iron Hand who fought with Cromwell at Clonmel.

    Whew Erin before Cromwell fell
    a man of whew I'll tell you,
    as they advanced to storm Clommel
    Was the foremost in the melel
    II
    Charles Lawyley high, a maw of power.
    Of all the hoops the best;
    For whew they stormed the western tower
    He towered above the rest.
    III
    A mower standing in the breach
    With scythe to guardd the pass;
    His hand cut off as if to leach
    That flesh is still but grass
    IV
    But yet a gallant warrior's boast
    might to his wounds [?] balm
    For though his hand the hero lost
    He bore away the palm
    V
    He could over that in the fray
    where balbs and bullets fly
    He had on that eventful day
    a finger in the pie.
