- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)of these bundles.
On the following day he points each of these at both ends and again ties them in bundles of one hundred. He next sorts them and the thick ones he splits down in halves. These he points again at both end. These are called scallops.
The reed is put into a pond to soak for three or four hours before use. While the reed is soaking he places a ladder against the house and levels off the old thatch.
He then brings the scallops up to the top of the ladder where he keeps them. Then he takes up half a beart of reed which he places in stripes (streaks) on the roof. He tacks down the reed with the scallops. When finished he evens off the edge with a shears.- Faisnéiseoir
