    Candles.
    About sixty years ago candles called snavog were made by some people to give them light. Very few people could make them. They only used those candles while they were eating their supper and they had no light afterwards
    Two long wheaten straws were put to-gether. THen a string was torn off a piece of calico and rolled in goose grease which was melted down by a red tongs.
    The strip of calico was then rolled around the wheaten straw and was lit.
