Station on the G.S.R. This road also leads to Castlegarde, a lovely place, owned by a Protestant gentleman, a Mr. Thompson.
Going north, this road leads past Doon Glebe, a place burned during the Black and Tans. It also leads past Dark Island Bog, now almost a commonage. Going off this road, we come to a ford, which was improved last year, by the Board of Works, by being paved at the bottom. In fine weather, when the water in the ford is low, the neighbouring people cross in going to the village of Cappamore.
At the north end of this road, we come to a cross of four roads. It is called "Arkinson's Cross" called after a Protestant clergyman of that name.
On the side of the road there is a well, which supplies water to the neighbouring houses. There is a forge here also which belonged to the present owner's great grandfather.
