- King Conor Mac Nessa
During the centuries between the birth of Christ and the coming of Christianity to Ireland with Saint Patrick, many noted kings rules over the Gaels. Of those kings the most distinguished was: Conor Mac Nessa. King Conor Mac Nessa was king of the Ulaidh. Emania, situated near the present town of Armagh, was his capital; and there also were there headquarters of the Red Branch Knights, an order of Chivalry confined to the northern kingdom and established to safeguard its independence. Connor was attacked by Maev, the warrior Queen of Connacht, who aimed at making herself the supreme ruler of Ireland; but the valour of the Red Branch Knights saved Ulaidh and Maev was driven within her own frontiers.
