  1. On the top of Nicker Hill, overlooking Pallasgreene, there is a large flat stone, situated in a little hollow and surrounded by the elevated ground which forms the highest point of the hill. Here it is believed Mass was celebrated during the penal times. The stone was used for an altar, while the congregation knelt in the hollow with scouts on the higher ground about them. The hill commands a great view of the flat country all around, so that the scouts could see an approaching enemy afar off.

  2. In Mrs O'Callaghan's field in Turagh, there is an immense rock known as the "Mass Rock". It is believed mass was said on this rock in Penal times. From the surrounding districts, there are paths leading to this field, and these are called "Mass
