- Every family or almost every family had a churn in the old days in this area. However, each family did not make their own butter each week. One person churned for all the neighbours. All bringing their cream to one house. Each person took a hand at the churn, and if any stranger came in, they too were requested to give the churn a few turns. That was before a creamery was established in Cappamore. The people used to go to Limerick and Tipperary to sell the butter at the butter market.
There was an old custom which was faithfully observed. The woman in whose house the churn was, being made, always made a hot cake. It was made thin like scones but not cut up until it was baked. It(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
