    The man who built the the schoolhouse (Erasmus Smith) was a Landlord who used to collect rent from the people in Knocknacorriga before Richard Lloyd became Landlord of Towerhill.
    Erasmus Smith was a very cruel man, he used to seize the people's cows and horses if they didn't pay the money to him. He tried to stamp out every trace of Catholicity in the district, and he was backed by Mr. Coote a Protestant minister, who lived in Doon Glebe. Coote had a Protestant church (a small one) in Doon Glebe Mansion and he tried to induce the people to go to it, but they remained loyal and true to the religion of their fore-fathers.
