    The town is 14 miles South East from Limerick, on the road to Templemore.

    The town is 14 miles South East from Limerick, on the road to Templemore. About a mile east from this village to the South of this road stood a Priory of Canons regular. Portions of the Priory walls are still to be seen, but are gradually decaying. At the dissolution of the Monasteries it was granted by Queen Elizabeth to Miles McGrath, the Apostolic Archbishop of Cashel. It was up to lately known as "Toomaline House".
    To the South of the village in the parish of Castletown, now included in the parish of Doon. Formerly it was known as Castletown Coonagh. It is named from the castle built there by McBrian Coonagh and near it stood the old Church, still in a fair state of preservation. This Church was 40ft long and twenty feet wide, with walls 3ft thick. Many of the old families of the locality had their burial place within and around this old ruin. Few at present know that it was once an important parish Church.
    A short distance to the West of the Church stands on the bank of a stream called the "Abain a Dra" the ruins of the chief castle of the McBrian Coonagh. From this castle as stated above the parish was
