   Farewell to Newton's verdant vales.
   From then I must depart.
   Yet there's no spot all oe'r the earth.
   So dear unto my heart.
   What ever fate has in store for me.
   Where'er I'm tossed about.
   I'll not forget the pleasant days.
   I spent round Newton Sprout.

   That sprout pours out where I was born.
   'Tis my birth place and I love it.
   And every branch and tree that grows.
   In that green old green grove above it.
   For every morning as I rise.
   And through the glass look out.
   The first objects that meet my gaze.
   Is that old grove and Sprout.

   There in the summer evenings.
   How I wiled the hours along.
   With comrade boys and boys girls.
   With a dance and merry song.
   Or in the grove upon the rope.
   Swinging gaily out.
   And soaring upward 'mong the trees.
