Ar an leathanach seo
- There are a number of forts around Rathkeale. One at the West end of the town on the (sumit) summit of Mount Southwell from which Rathkeale derives its name "Ráth-Caola. There is also one on the Main Road to Limerick near Croagh. It is called Keating's fort.
There is another fort at Ráth na Saor about three miles south of Rathkeale adjoining the old graveyard.
There is an old story told, that this fort was entirely circled by a huge serpent who at sunset had a habit of putting it's tail in its mouth and then springing into the air. This used to terrify the natives who complained to Saint Patrick when he passed this place on his way(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
