people on the following Spring, it was very hard to get seed potatoes. Some got them from some foreign country at a very high price. The food the people had was meal - bread and turnips. The people were so badly off that they had to emigrate to America. Then a great sickness came called "Cholera" Many people died of this feaver. The Government Relief came to this district. In the famine times roads were made for relief work. One of those roads is leading from Ballingarry to Ballyroe another to Dunbeirn and another to Hannon's cross.
