    When the potato crop failed, the only food the people had was Indian meal and turnips. No one can give a correct account of what caused the blight. Potatoes were so numerous in the years before the Famine that they were left to rot in the pits, this might account for the blight. I do not know if this parish got Government relief but other parishes did, there was what was then called a Depot where the poor people got porridge.
