   e the blight would destroy the crop. Blue stone is first mixed with water and is then put into a vessel which is called a spraying barrel. Then one man takes it and pours it all over the stalks. The potatoes are dug in the Autumn. Then they are picked and put into bags. The bags of potatoes are all placed in one heap and are covered with earth. The earth is then covered with rushes and big sods are put on the rushes to keep them firm. This is called a pit. Sometimes, the potatoes are left in the bags and they are stored in a loft. The local names for potatoes are Bloomers, Shamrocks, Kerpinks and the Arranbanners grow best in this district

   There is about an acre of ground under potatoes on our farm. Some years we plant more and some years we plant less. My Father and the work-man prepare the ground. Some of the potatoes are sown in drills and others in ridges. When potatoes are set in ridges the taob-foid's must first be turned with a spade a trench is
