- There are two forges in this locality. One, which belongs to Mr. Allen is situated on the Crosshaven road on the bank of the river Owenabuide quite adjacent to the Carrigaline bridge.
This forge has a galvanized roof with a few holes here and there for the smoke to escape, the street door is an ordinary, wide, wooden, one, to admit horses, and farming implements, the back door is smaller; a large fire-place, and the following implements furnish it - the anvil, sledges, hammers, files, pincers, knives, punches, and a huge bellows.
The smith shoes horses and donkeys, he also repairs ploughs, harrows and other iron untensils used on the farm. He shapes wheel bands in the open air on a stone ring.
In the main street another forge stands which belongs to Mr. Scannell. It is built of stone, has a slate roof, the same large doorway and implements are to be seen therein.
Members of the Scannell family have carried on the trade in this forge(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
