- Long ago there was a monastery in Ballybricken leading to the sea. A number of monks stayed in it until the O'Conors became Protestants and they dropped the "O" from their name. The Conors informed the British soldiers of the hiding place of the monks. When the monks heard that the soldiers were coming they sailed away in their ships. One of monks remained to hide the sacred vessels and he was killed by the soldiers. The remains of this monastery can still be seen and from it a house is built in which David and Patrick O'Leary are still living.
