  1. On the tombstone of one of the victims of the Mary Russel the following verse is engraved. The victim's name was Timothy O'Connell
    You gentle readers that pass this way,
    Attend a while; adhere to what I say
    By murder vile I was bereft of wife
    By Captain Steward I met an early doom
    On board the Mary Russel the 22nd of June
    Forced from this world to meet my God on high.
    With whom I hope to reign eternally.
    Aged 28 years.
