If the mother had the recipe she only told it to the eldest daughter and similarly with the father he only told the eldest son. Many of those gave up the practice as they said many of the ailments "fell" on themselves. In later years they demanded payment to prevent the ailment falling on themselves.
The local bonesetters who had the gift of bonesetting traditionally were the Broes of Keale. Jerry was the most successful though his brothers John and Michael also practised. None of that family now practise the art.
A famous drawing and healing ointment was in the keeping of a Leader family. One of these was Mrs. Quinlan of Island-dahill supplied many a sufferer with a cure for dirty wounds and boils. The ointment contained beeswax. Venus Turpentine and Resin. Those who had experemented with those substances have not been successful in making the oinment.
