Ar an leathanach seo

  1. In olden times people used have three meals daily:- breakfast, dinner & supper.
    Breakfast:- eaten after 2 hrs. work consisted of oaten meal or yellow meal boiled the night before. Sometimes the breakfast consisted of potatoes.
    Dinner:- about noon. It consisted of potatoes - sour milk or butter milk.
    Supper:- at night fall. Consisted of either Barley Cake, oaten cake or one way cake with milk.
    Sugar was never used but honey was used instead.
    Vegetables were seldom used except cabbage, nettles, watercress.
    July used to be called "the month of the cabbage
    Nettles were used during the month of May
    A pot of potatoes used to be emptied on the table & all used to sit around. The table was hinged to the settle & thrown up against the wall when not in use. Those tables were in use until recently.
    Meat was only eaten very seldom during the "hard times" but old people say that meat used be eaten at least once a
