- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)One of the boys particularly, called Michael, was very mischievous, so he got a ducking several times a day. Eventually, he became an expert swimmer and diver. Very often when the fishing-fleet, at high-tide, wanted to unmoor their boats, he was called to dive down, and unloose the cable. When he grew up he did many a daring deed, which are still told by the firesides, on winter nights. One dark night two boats were out after mackarel; they put out their nets, and when about to draw them in, they found they had so many fish, that the two boats could not contain them all. So Michael was ordered to swim ashore (a distance of two miles) for another boat ; he accomplished the journey, procured the boat, and arrived back in time to take the remaining fish.
A few years later, like many another brave young Irishman, he had to emigrate to America, and he never returned to his native land.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
