They are picked by the youngest members of the family and divided into two portions the small ones are reserved for animal use and the remainder stored in pits in the field or drawn home and stored in the barn or other out-house.Starch was formerly made from potatoes but at present it can be bought cheaper ready-made in the shops (ready made).
