  1. There is a little islet a few perches in area in the Fourmilewater river about 3 miles east from Durrus village Co. Cork called Gaírdín na Mullach.
Local tradition has it that it got its name as follows. A priest was going on a "sick call" in the neighbourhood one night. Passing by this place he heard his name being called. He came off his horse and came to the spot. He searched carefully but could see no one. He mounted his horse again, but had proceeded only a short distance when the call was repeated. Again he could find no one. For the third time the call was repeated with the same result. The priest then went on his Mission but found the person whom he was to anoint, dead. He then cursed the islet - hence its name.
