  1. The story of "The Hidden Treasure" was recounted to me by an old man in the village, one evening in late October 1937 when I chanced to find him alone. He is called Malachy Fallon and is the oldest inhabitant here being up to eighty five years of age and still enjoying robust health, except for the fact of being slightly deaf. I had often heard of this hidden treasure, but never (saw) new the actual story until Old Malachy told it to me in the following words:
    "Well" he said gazing contemplatively into the heart of the fire and taking a "pull" at his old clay dudeen, there's tellins an' tellins in it about that hidden 'goold' but I'll tell it to you
