- The Irish language does not seem to have been in use in this school district during the last 100 years. This is evident as old people up to 80 years of age know no Irish.Still although the Irish language is so long dead, many Irish words and phrases have remained and are in daily use still by everybody. The school boys of the next generation may be anxious to know what they were and the following list will give all the words and phrases still in use in 1938.
An old woman is called a " Caileach"
A young girl is called a " Girseach "
A lame man is called a " bacach "
A small bonham is called a " lochán "
When calling pigs " Deoch Deoch " is said.
When calling hens " Tioc, Tioc, Tioc " is said.
When chasing ducks " S-lach, S-lach, S-lach " is said. When chasing hens s- Cearc, s-Cearc, s-Cearc is said.A boy who has no sense is called an " Amadán "(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
