    Long ago it was a custom for boys to go around the streets and any one they would meet that should have got married in Shrove they would throw a rope, which would be made into a loop, around them. Then they would pull the person through the streets. But that custom is not practised now because very often the person it was done to might be hurt and led to a law suit.
    All persons that are sad on "Puss Sunday" are said to be sorry because they did not get married.
