- Potatoes are grown every year on the farm at home. Usually three roods of land are under potatoes each year. Sometimes there is more sown, and other years less. When we have not good potatoes one year, then when we have good ones again, a good deal more is planted the next year in the hope that if some of them fail that there will be others to replace them.
My father prepares the ground at home but sometimes he gets some boy or man to help him. Manure is first spread on the field that is to be dug up for the crop. Sometimes if we are afraid of being late with the crop, the farm-yard manure is spread on the field in straight lines, and then two horses and a plough are got.
