There is a belief connected with the forge water as it is said to cure diseases.
A story is told in connection with the forge water
The Blessed Virgin when going to Bethlehem met a man on her way and asked him for a pin. He said he had not one. Further on they met a smith coming from his work.
They asked him for a pin but he said he had not one but he would go back and make one. They thanked him, and when he made the large pin he cooled it in his trough and brought it to the Blessed Virgin to pin her cloak.
Then the Blessed Virgin blessed the water of the forge, and since that it is considered lucky. Smiths have power to banish rats and it is said that smiths are very strong.
They are also very good story tellers.
The forge has not figured in any historical or national event.- Faisnéiseoir
