  1. My father told me that he heard from his father that the people of this area were in fear and trembling of the "Whitefeet". They visited the protestants at night to force them to give up arms and they visited Catholics to force them to join their ranks or "To swear them in".
    After a time they began to visit in daylight as many men who feared their visits slept away from home. My great grandmother, Mrs Phelan who lived in lower Sconce was hanging out clothes on the hedge one evening when a party of Whitefeet came up asking for her men folk.
    Immediately a party of Blackfeet came on the scene. These ordered the Whitefeet to decamp. There was a melee and one of the Whitefeet took a big boulder threw it at my grandmother and broke her arm.
    Both parties then cleared off as some neighbour gave the alarm that the Peelers were in the lane.
