- Our school is situated in Aghavoe which means the field of a cow. Hundreds of years ago it was a town with about 1300 houses. These houses were situated mostly in the Pigeon Park of Currawn. The green plot on which the school is built was a fair green one time. In years gone by it must have been a burial place because when the present school was being built numerous skeletons were dug up. Lately when a new coal shed was being attached, another skeleton was found. Aghavoe is supposed to be the best grazing land in Ireland but it is not suitable for growing turnips.
