  1. Jerpoint Abbey, in Kilkenny, near Thomastown has the ruins of a splendid abbey founded by Donough Mac Gillapatrick, King of Ossary in the 12th century.

    On a balmy Summer morning when the scented thoin spray
    Was still upon the uplands, and the sky all bright and clear;
    The lark high in the air, and the cuckoo far away
    Sang joyfully O Summer now is here.

    An azure haze of blue-bells hung in every leafy glade
    And all among the hill side was the fragrancy of June
    The mellow throated blackbird whistled softly in the shade
    And the rivulet at Mullion sang a sleepy Summer tune
