- In Ireland there have been many old indications with regard to weather signs.
With regard to the coming of rain there are many traditional beliefs for example.
If the birds fly low it is a sign of rain. If the stars do not appear at night or clouds appear instead, rain is near. If the cat sits near the fire and does not move it is another sign of rain. If soot falls from the chimney rain is near. When a blue flame appears in the fire it is the sign of a storm. When the sky is red at night it is a sign of fine weather. When a rainbow is seen in the morning it's a sign of bad . If it is seen at night it is a sign of good weather as the old rhyme says(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
