- We see many different kinds of travelling folk on the roads. There are three kinds of travelling folk; the ordinary beggar man, the tinker and the gypsy. The tinker and the gypsy have tents to cover them from the cold, but the beggar man sometimes gets shelter in a barn, if not he has to sleep under a ditch.One of the various kinds of travelling folk is the beggar, but sometimes he is called the "bagman" because he carries a bag on his back. He goes from house to house begging for something. He gets a penny at some of the houses and bread or potatoes at others.
