    At about twenty years of age people began to wear boots. Children always went bare-foot in summer but now they think that a disgrace.
    People used to put a red spark in the water used for washing the feet before throwing it out, in order to keep away the evil spirits!
    In olden times there were about a hundred shoe-makers in the district to one now.
    "Ronans" were the local shoe-makers. Clogs were worn in the past but are not worn now,
    Leather was tanned in Callan.
