  2. The "Great Famine" occurred in the years '46 to '47. It was caused by the failure of the potato crop. The people were dependent on the potato crop for their only food so the potato failure caused starvation among the people. This district was very thickly populated. Many people died of hunger and diseases brought from hunger while others
