Potato cake was often made and used but it was valued as much as "Boxty." When the oats was ground in the mill the owners used to get from the miller what I used hear them calling "shillen" (I think it should be "shelling")
This used to be boiled into a soft mess called "flummery" and was used as food.
Fifty years ago workmen always worked an hour and sometimes more before they were called into their breakfast of "stirabout." They got one other meal about two o'clock and no more.
The old people could fast a long time. They kept the Lenten fast rigorously and I know a few old people who(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
