  1. One night in the time of the Black and Tans twelve Irish soldiers were chased by a troup of Tans. They ran from Sleeven to the Spire where they heard that there were Tans in 'Comer waiting for them. Then one of them, Paddy O'Neill, thought of a plan. he wrote on a piece of pasteboard;-
    Do not enter this house as it is the dead house. There is an O'Brennan dead here, and the Banshee follows the O Brennans.
    When he had this done he pinned it on the dead house door and they all went in and half closed the door. When the Tan saw the house was a dead house the passed off
